Germany strengthens its defense with the order of 256 Piranha V armored vehicles and MAN trucks (General Dynamics European Land System)
Germany has ordered up to 256 Piranha V armored personnel carriers from General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS), with the delivery of the first batch of 58 vehicles scheduled for 2026.
These vehicles will be equipped with the Tactical Wide Area Network (TaWAN) long-range telecommunications network and are part of the modernization efforts of the Bundeswehr, the German Army.
The contract value for the delivery of the Piranha V is in the range of hundreds of millions of euros. For this project, GDELS is collaborating with the German defense company Rheinmetall, which acts as the prime contractor. GDELS also plans to produce the Piranha V in Germany and establish a logistics support center in the country.
Additionally, in January, Rheinmetall received an order to provide nearly 600 trucks for the German Armed Forces, totaling 568 MAN trucks, with an investment exceeding $346.5 million. This acquisition will include 5- and 15-ton trucks, as well as variable-body models, of which 121 will have a protected driver’s cabin.
